The Cadets

Independent Short Doc (2010)

Between 2008-2010, I spent 17 weeks touring the country by bus, documenting The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. What is Drum and Bugle Corps? I’m glad you asked! When I don’t feel like explaining it, I just say “professional marching band”, which admittedly doesn’t capture the true essence of what it is. A more accurate description would be “a couple hundred of the world’s most talented 18-21yo musicians and dancers performing broadway level shows on football fields, with musicality that would sound right at home in a world class concert hall, while performing athletic feats that would make an NFL player cry. The Cadets, along with 20(ish) similar groups spend the summer competing with each other, performing in football stadiums all over the USA. For me, it was my first opportunity to hone my craft as a storyteller. I was responsible for creating 4 videos a week for fans and had the freedom to experiment without creative limitations. Now, over a decade later, all Drum Corps have video teams. However, I was among the first and am credited with setting the standard for documenting these groups. This piece is the last I made in 2010.
